Hello Ladies and
Gentlemen and thank you for stepping into a very important role as Coach.
Some of you have Coached young people in the past and some of you are
new to Coaching, either way you are about to be a life long role model
for these kids.
I would like to introduce myself, my name is Bryan Solis and I also
Coach young people. I have Coached for a number of years and find it
very rewarding for myself and also for the players. The relationship
that is formed as mentor and student is not to be taken lightly because
it is a major part of a players youth. I was very fortunate to have
had Coaches as a young player that I respected and that respected me.
I knew winning wasn't everything but I truly wanted to win for my Coach,
because I knew my Coach wanted the best for us.
To this day I see Coaches that I have had as a young player and I must
say it is a great feeling when I walk up to, or am approached by, this
person I used to call Coach and we talk about good times. We talk about
our families and mutual friends and their eyes open up wide when I mention
to them that I now am Coaching just like they did, this seems to be
the ultimate compliment.
I have seen tears in some of my Coaches eyes as we sit down and reminisce
about the guys on the team and all the team outings and travel tournaments.
Yeah sure we talk about the great victories and the ones that got away,
but most of all it was a time we both can look back on, smile and say
"the good old days." Either way when we part company and promise
each other we will keep in touch there is always that "feel good"
feeling of great memories, but also sadness because I am saying good-bye
to a dear old friend that I haven't seen in 20 years and may never see
again. Oh yes we have good intentions of keeping in touch, but well
you know, life goes on.
Please, as you take on this new role, just think about how you would
like to be remembered, as a Coach that wanted to win at all costs or
a friend that helped and guided his pack through the hard times.
Thank You again for volunteering to Coach, you will meet some great
kids and great families and make life long friends.
