Region 5 - Fountain Valley

AYSO 12U Youth Soccer

The 12U program was developed to continue player development in a fun yet competitive environment. After the completion of the regular season, a postseason tournament is played with the top two teams receiving trophies.  The winner of the postseason tournament is eligible to move on to the area tournament.

Season LengthThe regular season runs from September through October, followed by the post-season which completes in the Region by the middle of November. Spring is March through May.
Time CommitmentPractice approximately 60-90 minutes once or twice a week (depending on the coach's schedule). Games are played on Saturday The game consists of two 30-minute halves.
EquipmentEach player will be given a uniform which consists of a jersey, shorts, and socks. The player must provide soccer cleats, shin guards and a size 4 soccer ball.
Certification RequiredAll volunteers must be registered AYSO Volunteers, and all coaches must be Safe Haven Certified.

Game FormatThe game is played 9 vs. 9, under a modified FIFA rule system. The game is played in 2 30-minute halves. Substitutions/breaks are done halfway through each half, and there is a 3-5 minute halftime break.
Team FormationThe teams are formed via a draft. The player ratings are provided to all coaches prior to the draft. There are no more than 12 players on a team.
OtherFIFA Laws are fully enforced by the referees in 12U. There are still no headers allowed in this division. Goalies are allowed drop-kick returns or throw-ins.
